Advanced 3D Oral Scanning Technology

Enhanced Comfort And Faster Diagnosis

At Ward Aesthetic Dentistry, we’re committed to delivering the highest standard of care, and that starts with using the most advanced dental technology available. One of our most powerful tools is our SHINING 3D Intraoral Scanner from Aoralscan, which allows Dr. Rachel Ward to diagnose issues more accurately, plan treatments with greater precision, and create restorations like dental crowns and veneers with maximum comfort and efficiency.

What Is A 3D Oral Scanner?

There are lots of different scanners on the market, but they all work similarly. At Ward Aesthetic Dentistry, we use a SHINING 3D Intraoral scanner from Aoralscan. 3D oral scanners look a bit like an electric toothbrush, but with a special camera on the tip instead of a toothbrush head.

During your appointment, Dr. Ward gently moves the scanner around your mouth, capturing thousands of detailed images of your teeth and gums in just seconds. These images are instantly processed by our advanced software, which compiles them into a highly accurate, lifelike 3D model of your smile. This 3D scan can be used to help diagnose oral health issues, plan cosmetic dental treatment, or create dental restorations like veneers or crowns.

The Benefits Of  Scanning Technology

Wondering how you can benefit from scanning technology at Ward Aesthetic Dentistry? Here are just a few ways this technology helps Dr. Ward and our team provide better care:

  • More accurate diagnosis – 3D oral scans can be used to recognize old dental work, look for cavities, identify worn teeth, determine the extent of orthodontic issues, and so much more. Along with X-rays and oral exams, 3D oral scanning technology enables Dr. Ward to recognize common oral health issues more quickly and efficiently.
  • No need for gunky dental impressions – Traditional dental impressions require you to bite into thick, goopy dental putty. This can be really uncomfortable, especially if you have a strong gag reflex. With our 3D scanner, putty-based impressions are a thing of the past.

  • Enables digital smile design – Dr. Ward can use your scan to help plan for things like veneers, crowns, dental implants, and so much more. In most cases, she can even use 3D design technology to provide you with a “sneak peek” of how your smile will look after your treatment.
